Farnoosh
Ashrafi is an exciting new discovery, introduced by the Hamburger Kunsttreppe
in 2001. Born in Uroumieh in Iran, he came to Germany at the age of
fifteen. He finished his schooling here and then studied graphic design
and illustration at the Hamburg higher Education Institute. But even
then his real interest was painting and he has continued to train this
speciality.Farnoosh Ashrafi is a prolific and enthusiastic draughtsman.
His sketches serve to compile impressions and above all motifs, drawing
functions as the crucible for his ideas. His drawings are all representational,
while his paintings are stylized almost to pure abstraction. As a result,
his large-format acrylic and oil works on canvas evoke a range of assoiations.
His current group of works, which feature warm natural tones such as
red, brown, ochre and yellow, evoke architectural forms. Spaces and
dreams are indeed the motteo of Ashrafis paintings, in which he merges
inner and outer realities.
